In my post Where to stay in Bali, I wrote an overview of the island´s regions and what to expect when you stay in Sanur. When we stayed there in 2022, after the pandemic, I found it to be a very quiet area, perfect for walking around, with plenty of places to eat lunch or dinner, and even some restaurants offering live music. It’s also a vibrant commercial area, with lots of shops selling local handicrafts.
I’m not sure how much it has changed since then, but from what I hear, Sanur continues to be an excellent area to stay in, especially for those travelling with young children. Sanur´s beach has no waves, so it´s ideal for little ones to play safely.
Firstly, I’ll recommend a hotel in Sanur where we stayed on our first trip to Bali: the Sudamala. I highly recommend it! After that, I’ll share some other equally well-rated options.
The hotels in this group are all absolutely stunning, and the one in Sanur is no exception. It boasts beautiful Balinese architecture, with lots of statues and Hindu elements that bring the hotel gardens to life. (You can also read about our stay at another Sudamala hotel in Lombok here).
I remember the à la carte breakfast being particularly good!

The hotel is just a short walk from the beach, where there is a reserved area for guests, with sun loungers and towels.
Do note that the beach closest to the hotel was rather windy when we visited in July, with lots of kitesurfers. Still, we were able to enjoy the beach and take a few dips in the calm waters of Sanur.

Located right in front of Sudamala, this restaurant serves Indonesian food as well as other dishes at very reasonable prices.
This restaurant was recommended to us by another family staying at the same hotel. I remember the food being excellent and the space being very charming. There was also live music. Highly recommend it for dinner.
This resort is located right in front of the beach and close to several restaurants and shops.
It has the typical facilities of a large resort, including a kids’ club and a yoga studio, where the hotel offers a free daily yoga class.
This hotel is slightly further away from the centre of Sanur, but it provides a shuttle service to the main area and the beach. For those looking to stay in Sanur on a smaller budget, it is the most affordable option on this list.
This luxury resort has direct beach access and is recommended for those who are not concerned about budget.
If you’re travelling with family or a group of friends, I suggest taking a look at this three-bedroom villa in Sanur
I hope this has given you a clear idea of where to stay in Sanur and that you find these tips useful when planning your trip.
